How One Autistic Entrepreneur Is Redefining Autism And Baby Food
Joe Carr, the co-founder and President of Serenity Kids, is autistic but was misdiagnosed during his childhood with ADHD. He struggled with peers and teachers who didn’t know how to handle, as he put it, his “big energy.” His mom discovered his passion for the performing arts, and he channeled that energy into theatre and dance. He soon became a professional child actor in Kansas City.
At age 13, Joe learned he had an innate ability to take feedback and began on a personal growth journey that continues still today. He became passionate about social justice and community service and dedicated his spare time to volunteering, organizing with activist groups both domestically and internationally.
With a successful business and a family, Joe hopes to shed some light and awareness on autism. This includes turning the typical negative messaging of “disorder” to be “recovered from” into Autism Acceptance. In speaking to Joe, he believes that there are many beautiful things about autism that need to be embraced, not removed.
